Moderate generation all week has made the fishing fantastic. Numbers and quality have been caught from the outlet below the hatchery through Branson Landing. Jigs continue to be a mainstay with Sculpin colors catching most of the fish including some very nice browns. Small spoons have been effective as well; gold Little Cleo and Buoyant models have been very effective in the Cooper Creek to Monkey Island stretch. Drifting power bait and gulp continues to produce, adjust the weight on your rig as current dictates.

Kimberling City Area: After almost a full week of the Corps of Engineers running four units 24/7 lake levels are back at seasonal power pool. Water temperatures have settled in the low to mid 60’s and fish have begun spawning throughout the lake. Fish can be caught on beds in gravel cuts and coves, Chompers or Tightlines UV tubes or UV Craws have been very effective. Tightlines Big Fat Jerk soft jerkbaits are working on points leading into spawning areas. Throw the bait weightless on a 4/0 EWG hook, allow it to sink around 5’ and give it a couple of twitches. Most of the bites are nothing more than your line going tight so keep slack out of your line and watch it closely to hook up.

The heavy generation has had trout actively feeding all week long. Sculpin orange and sculpin peach jigs have been producing quality fish behind docks and other current breaks. Allow the jig to sink to about 5’ deep and work it back erratically to draw strikes. Little Cleo and Buoyant spoons have been very effective weather cast and retrieved or trolled on shallow flats. As always, Gulp and Power Bait eggs drifted on a drift rig will produce throughout the lake.

Kimberling City Area: The 3” – 8” of rain this past week have raised lake levels and lowered water temperatures throughout the lake. The Corps of Engineers have been running four generators since the weekend, pulling water and in turn fish out of flooded brush inundated by flood waters. The best bite has been on main lake and secondary points with Jewel football or spider jigs, split shot rigs and Jewel Squirrel heads. Most of the fish have been from the old bank line out to 20’ deep, work all of the baits slowly along the bottom to draw strikes.

Continuous heavy generation since last weekend has made the bite a little tougher this week. Fast moving lures like Little Cleos, Buoyant Spoons and Rooster Tails have been effective when worked from shallow to deep around current breaks. Sculpin orange and Sculpin peach 1/8 oz, jigs worked in these same current breaks has produced some nice rainbows and the occasional brown. Drift rigs with Gulp or Power Bait eggs will always produce, increase sinker weight to ¼ oz. to maintain bottom contact when four generators are running.

Kimberling City Area: Water temperatures have essentially sky rocketed over the past week. Average main lake temperatures have risen to 62 degrees and warm rains will likely send temps even higher. Umbrella rigs continue to produce both numbers and quality; look for fish to be holding on deeper points with isolated timber. Wiggle warts and Chompers Spinnerbaits are producing fish less than 10’ deep. Mixed rock and gravel points and banks have been the most productive areas, parallel these banks paying close attention to wood cover.

Generation has picked up with the heavy rain fall early in the week; the Corps will likely keep generation constant until all lakes in the White River chain are back to normal pool. Stronger current has made jigs more important, sculpin orange and sculpin peach have been best colors, work 1/8th oz. jigs erratically close to the bottom to draw strikes. Gulp and Power bait eggs continue to produce in the deeper water from Cooper Creek to Branson; drift them along the bottom close to the main channel.

Kimberling City Area: Fish are beginning to stage close to spawning coves on the main lake and in the larger creek arms. Most of the fish are holding on steeper points at the mouth or close to spawning locals. Umbrella rigs, jerkbaits and single tail grubs have all been very effective, look for isolated standing timber close to spawning areas and make multiple casts close to the timber to draw strikes. There are fish holding on boat docks as well; look for docks adjacent to spawning areas to be the best locations, pitch Jewel jig and craw combos in shady areas of docks to be successful.
